Omega 315W CDM Grow Light Kit – Full-Spectrum 3000K Lighting with Useful Winter Heat

The Omega 315W CDM Grow Light Kit is a complete, great-value 315W CDM / CMH grow light built around a powerful 3000K full-spectrum lamp, dedicated Omega digital ballast and your choice of reflector setup.

CDM – also known as CMH or Ceramic Metal Halide lighting – still has a very useful place in modern grow rooms. The Omega 315W lamp produces an intense, broad-spectrum output at around 1.9µmol/W and includes UVA and UVB, making it particularly useful for growers looking to supplement an existing LED setup with a different spectral profile.

It also produces more radiant heat than a modern LED. During winter, that can be a genuine advantage. If your LED room is running a few degrees colder than you'd like, adding a 315W CDM gives you extra light and useful warmth from the same electrical load rather than adding a heater that only produces heat.

All current kit options use the Omega 315W 3000K CDM lamp, making this a particularly strong choice for flowering, fruiting and supplementary lighting.

Why Use CDM Lighting in 2026?

LED has become the obvious choice for primary grow lighting because of its efficiency, controllability and relatively low heat output.

That doesn't mean CDM grow lights have stopped being useful.

Instead, the way we'd use them has changed.

Rather than replacing a good LED fixture with CDM, we'd use a 315W CDM as supplementary lighting. The LED provides efficient primary light, while the CDM adds extra intensity, a broader spectral profile, UV wavelengths and additional radiant heat.

That combination becomes particularly useful through the colder months when an LED grow room can struggle to maintain temperature.

A Smart Way to Add Heat to an LED Grow Room

One of the biggest advantages of LED lighting can become a disadvantage during winter: it doesn't produce much radiant heat around the canopy.

If your room is already running cold during lights-on, the normal solution is to add an electric heater.

A heater will increase the temperature, but that's all the electricity is being used for.

A 315W Omega CDM also adds heat to the room, but you're simultaneously getting another 315W horticultural light source over the plants.

It isn't cheaper watt-for-watt than a heater – electricity is still electricity – but if you need both more lights-on warmth and more usable plant light, it's a much more productive use of that extra power.

Perfect Between Two LEDs in a 1.2m x 2.4m Tent

One of our favourite modern uses for this kit is in a 1.2m x 2.4m grow tent already running two LED fixtures.

Position the two LEDs over either side of the canopy and install the 315W CDM through the centre:

LED → 315W CDM → LED

This fills the middle of the lighting footprint with additional intensity, introduces the different CDM spectrum across the canopy and adds useful radiant warmth to the room.

It's a particularly tidy winter upgrade because you don't need to remove or replace any of your existing LED lighting. You're simply adding another light source where it can complement what you already have.

3000K Full-Spectrum CDM Lamp

Every current Omega CDM kit is supplied with the Omega 315W 3000K CDM Lamp.

The 3000K output has a warm spectral balance with enhanced red wavelengths, making it particularly well suited to flowering and fruiting plants.

Unlike a narrow-spectrum flowering lamp, however, CDM produces a much broader output that is closer to natural daylight than traditional HPS lighting.

The lamp is rated at approximately 1.9 micromoles per watt and can be used either as a standalone 315W light or, where we think it makes the most sense today, alongside LEDs as supplementary lighting.

Broad-Spectrum Light with UVA & UVB

One of the reasons growers have kept using ceramic metal halide grow lights is the quality of the spectrum.

The Omega CDM lamp produces a broad output that includes UVA and UVB wavelengths, giving you a different spectral profile from many standard LED grow lights.

That makes CDM particularly interesting if you're already happy with the efficiency and overall intensity of your LEDs but want to introduce another type of horticultural light into the room.

For growers focused on flowering, aroma, flavour and overall crop quality, this supplementary role is where we think CDM still makes the most sense.

Choose Your Omega CDM Kit

There are three 3000K Omega CDM kit configurations, allowing you to choose the setup that best suits your grow room.

Euro Reflector 3000K Kit

The Omega 315W CDM Euro Reflector is a lightweight, open-wing reflector with a hammered aluminium finish designed to spread light evenly across the grow space.

It includes a PGZ18 ceramic lamp holder, hanging eyelets and a 5-metre IEC cable. This is the straightforward option we'd choose for most conventional grow tent setups.

Spectrum Reflector 3000K Kit

The Omega 315W Spectrum Enclosed Reflector provides a more enclosed reflector design for growers who prefer that style of light distribution.

It's designed specifically for 315W CDM lamps and also includes a 5-metre IEC cable.

Adapter Kit 3000K

If you already own a suitable reflector with a standard E40 lamp fitting, the E40 to PGZ18 CDM Adapter lets you convert that reflector for use with the Omega CDM lamp.

This is the most cost-effective route if you've already got compatible reflector hardware and simply want to add CDM technology to your existing setup.

Omega 315W CDM Digital Ballast

Every kit includes the Omega 315W 240V CDM Digital Ballast, specifically designed to power 315W CDM and CMH lamps.

The ballast uses a lightweight aluminium casing, is wall mountable and comes with a 1-metre flying IEC cable.

It also carries a 2-year manufacturer's guarantee, giving you a dedicated ballast rather than trying to run the lamp from equipment designed for another type of HID lighting.

How to Set Up the Omega 315W CDM Kit

  1. Choose your reflector: Select the Euro Reflector, Spectrum Reflector or Adapter Kit configuration that suits your setup.
  2. Install the lamp: Fit the 315W 3000K CDM lamp securely into the PGZ18 lamp holder.
  3. Hang the reflector: Position the reflector above the growing area using suitable rope ratchet hangers.
  4. Connect the reflector to the ballast: Attach the IEC connection securely before powering the system.
  5. Position the ballast safely: Keep it on a suitable hard surface or mount it securely away from water and combustible materials.
  6. Connect to your lighting control: Use a correctly rated timer or contactor to control the lighting cycle.
  7. Check your environment: Once running, monitor canopy temperature as well as light intensity and adjust extraction or hanging height where required.

Our Take

We've sold CDM lighting for years, and the technology still has a place even though LED has taken over as the main grow-light choice.

We wouldn't tell somebody with a good modern LED to rip it out and replace it with CDM. Where these kits make real sense now is supplementing an existing LED setup.

For the money, you're getting another serious light source with a noticeably different spectrum and more radiant warmth than LED. Through winter, when a lot of LED rooms start struggling with low lights-on temperatures, that extra heat suddenly becomes useful rather than something you're trying to remove.

A 315W CDM positioned between two LEDs in a larger tent is probably our favourite way to run one today. It adds light where you can use it, broadens the spectrum and helps put some warmth back into the growing environment.

Top Tip: Running LEDs and struggling to keep the room warm through winter? Before automatically adding another electric heater, look at whether your canopy can make use of some additional light. A 315W CDM can give you that extra lights-on warmth while also adding full-spectrum horticultural light – particularly effective positioned between two LEDs in a larger grow tent.
