How the CO2 Bottle and Refill Service Works
CO2 is a naturally occurring gas that plays an essential role in the process of photosynthesis. Typically, the atmosphere around us contains CO2 in concentrations of around 360 parts per million (ppm), but plants can make good use of CO2 at levels much higher than this. When used correctly, supplementing with CO2 comes with numerous benefits, making plants more tolerant to higher temperatures, triggering amplified growth rates, and leading to improved harvests in terms of both quality and quantity. Optimal levels of CO2 are between 1000ppm and 1200ppm; levels higher than this can be detrimental, while levels above 2000ppm actually become toxic to your plants. At 4000ppm to 5000ppm levels become toxic to humans!
There are two main ways to add CO2 to your growroom: 'hot CO2' and 'cold CO2'. Hot CO2 utilises gas burners, which emit CO2 as a by-product. Cold CO2 refers to the use of gas cylinders. Cylinders are by far the best way to add carbon dioxide to your grow room. They come with fewer unwanted side effects than hot CO2, which produces excess moisture and additional gasses.

How to Use CO2 Bottles
To use a CO2 bottle, you'll need a regulator and a controller. The regulator screws onto the gas bottle. It's built with a solenoid valve, so that it can allow CO2 out from the cylinder when needed. The controller then connects to the regulator, telling it how often to dose.
There are numerous regulator and controller combinations, but the quickest and easiest way to get up and running is with the Ecotechnics UNIS set-up. In this instance, the controller triggers CO2 dosing at regular intervals based on the size of the room (as set by the user).
An even more effective (but also more complicated) way to dose CO2 is to add in a sensor. The Pro-Leaf controller detects concentrations in the air and doses CO2 from the cylinder accordingly, in order to maintain perfect levels at all times. It teams up nicely with the Dimlux CO2 Regulator.
