Air Stone Round

Keep your nutrient solution fully oxygenated with a round air stone. These round air stones are great for the bottom of small, medium and large reservoirs.

How the Air Stone Round Works

These round air stones come in three sizes and are circular pieces of porous stone, partly cased in plastic, leaving one side exposed. Typically, the small 3 inch round air stones go into small reservoirs, the 4 inch round air stones go into medium reservoirs, leaving the 6 inch round air stone for larger reservoirs.

An inlet nodule is located on the inside of the ring to allow the air stone to be connected to an air pump via a length of air line. When connected to an air pump, the air will exit the air stone through the many pores in the stone. When the air stone is submerged in water or a nutrient solution, the effect is that many small bubbles are produced and released from the surface of the stone. The bubbles create movement in the water or nutrient solution keeping it well mixed. The movement at the surface also greatly increases the amount of oxygen being dissolved into it.

Dissolved oxygen discourages anaerobic microbes which can cause root diseases and feeds oxygen to the friendly aerobic microbes. An air stone helps to keep your plant’s roots healthy while also providing oxygen for the roots to absorb. The Round Air stones are partly cased in plastic to help prevent damage to the brittle porous stone inside. Adding an airstone to your reservoir really does increase the speed of your plant’s growth and creates a healthier root-system. An air stone is very highly recommended for all hydroponic systems.

How To Use

How to Use the Air Stone Round

Connect the air stone to your air pump using 4mm pvc or rubber air line. If the air line is difficult to fit over the inlet, dipping the end in warm water should make job much easier. Always make sure that your air pump is at a higher level than the surface of the water in your reservoir to prevent water siphoning back into the air pump. Lower the air stone down to the bottom of your reservoir and switch your air pump on. The porous stone used in air stones is brittle and should be handled carefully to prevent breakages. Every so often, gently clean the surface of the air stone to maintain the air-flow and bubble production. Air stones do degrade with use and will become clogged and more brittle over time. Try to make sure you replace them regularly.
