Phytoseiulus Persimilis - Hunts Down and Destroys Spider Mites

Phytoseiulus persimilis, which belongs to the Phytoseiidae family, is a predatory mite used by professional horticulturalists for biological control of one of the most destructive pests out there, spider mites, particularly the well-known two-spotted spider mite (Tetranychus urticae). The female mites lay their eggs near spider mite colonies, where they also feed. After hatching, the larvae and subsequent nymph stages actively feed on spider mites, gradually growing and moulting until they reach adulthood. The life cycle of Phytoseiulus persimilis is completed in about a week under favourable conditions.

Why Choose Live Predators?

Live predators are the ultimate weapon in the fight against grow room pests. Unlike chemical pesticides, these living organisms offer a natural and environmentally friendly approach to pest control that doesn't harm beneficial insects or wildlife, and won't leave toxic residues on your crop. Plus, live predators establish themselves in your growing environment, providing ongoing protection that saves you money in the long run. Adding live predators as a preventative measure is a much better way to approach pests than to wait for signs of infestations. With their insatiable appetite for pests, live predators are highly effective at keeping populations in check, resulting in healthier, more productive crops that can reach their full potential. Choose live predator pests for a sustainable, effective, and cost-efficient pest management program.

How To Use

This product is suitable for use on protected edible and ornamental crops, as well as outdoor soft fruit. It requires the presence of spider mites (Tetranychus spp.) to establish and is most effective in warm and moderately humid conditions. However, it may not perform well in hot and dry conditions.

When using this product preventively or for initial introductions, the recommended application rate is 5 to 10 mites per square metre. For low-level curative purposes, 20 mites per square metre are advised, while for more severe infestations, a higher rate of up to 50 mites per square metre can be applied. The frequency of introductions should be adjusted based on monitoring results and prevailing conditions, typically repeated fortnightly.
