Complete AutoPot XL AV5 Kits

AV5 systems come with upgraded AQUAvalves and thicker 6mm (9mm external) pipework, greatly increasing the efficiency of the system and reducing the chances of encountering blockages. These kits come with large 25 litre pots. For smaller pots, take a look at our regular Autopot Grow kits.

AutoPots are easy-to-use nutrient delivery systems that offer numerous benefits. Plants are gravity fed from a reservoir – no pumps or items of electrical equipment are required.

Instead, AutoPots rely on the simple genius of the AQUAvalve system to distribute feed to root systems as and when they require it. Just work out how many plants you want to feed, choose the relevant AutoPot system and you're away.

How AutoPot System Kits Work

These low cost watering systems offer many benefits, coming with all of the equipment and fittings needed to get set up - making irrigation simple and hassle-free!

AutoPot systems are a great way to supply your plants with the nutrients they require, without ever having to use pumps or other irrigation equipment, and therefore use no electricity.

Instead, AutoPots rely on gravity and the ingenious AQUAvalve system to distribute feed as and when they are needed. Because of this, AutoPot kits are simple to install and very user friendly. The pots in these kits have a 25 Litre growing capacity.

AQUAvalves fill each tray up to the standard level of 20mm. Once this nutrient solution has been absorbed and the tray is empty, the AQUAvalve automatically refills it back up to the 20mm level using an ingenious float valve system.

Fresh nutrient solution is only ever delivered once root systems have absorbed the previous 20mm of feed.

Because plants in AutoPots are fed from underneath, they require a medium that is able to absorb liquid effectively, 'sucking' it up to the upper regions of the container via capillary action and creating an even spread of nutrient. Coco coir ticks these boxes, making it the best performing medium we've tested for use in AutoPot systems.

It's advisable to mix all types of media with perlite or clay pebbles, up to a ratio of around one part medium to one part perlite or pebbles. 60/40 is a great option that's proven to be a customer favourite.

How To Use

AutoPot systems will need assembling differently depending on the number of pots / plants. This is actually quite a simple process.

Place the circular root control disc at the bottom of the AutoPot tray, with metallic side facing up. This will ensure that roots don't grow into the AQUAvalve tray and cause blockages that may inhibit the distribution of nutrient. The black marix discs also help to prevent blockages and should be placed in the bottom of your AutoPot containers.

Fill the container with your chosen medium and pot your plants up in the system. AutoPots work best with absorbent mediums with good capillary action. Coco coir is perfect for this, but remember to use coco specific feeds when choosing nutrients. Soil is fine, but heavier grades work best when mixed with up to 50% perlite.

It's always advisable to place a layer of pebbles at the bottom of each container to stop plants from becoming water logged.

Water your plants from the top down in an external area and allow pots to drain fully outside of the AutoPot Trays.

Allow 7 – 10 days of top down hand-watering before filling the reservoir with nutrient.

Note that AutoPot systems work best with mineral based nutrient solution. Organic feeds can leave residues that may lead to blockages. Consider using Athena Cleanse alongside your other nutrients to prevent salt build-ups that could cause blockages.

AQUAvalve Maintenance

To check that the AQUAvalve is functioning properly, hold it at eye level and take a close look at the yellow silicon which is fitted into the top float. In order for the AQUAvalve to function correctly, a tight seal should be formed between this float and the hole that sits underneath it. If it doesn't sit properly over the hole, lift the top float up, remove the yellow silicon and give it a quick clean. When you put it back into position it should form a tight seal.

The AQUAvalve should be cleaned after each grow using warm soapy water and a cloth.
