How the Sol-Digital 1000w HPS Lamp Works:
The Sol-Digital 1000w HPS Lamp is a dual-spectrum lamp with a huge 141,500 lumen output that’s great for use in both the vegetative growth stage and for flowering plants. The lamp produces a high level of photosynthetically active radiation (PAR). This is light in the right spectral regions to provide the energy that your plants require to form sugars from water and CO2 in the surrounding atmosphere.
Digital ballasts are outgrowing traditional magnetic ballasts in popularity year on year, mostly due to the flexibility they provide in controlling temperatures, especially during difficult summer months. Often, this flexibility comes at a price - HPS lamps are optimized for use at their intended output levels, and when they are powered through adjustable ballasts at different outputs, their light spectrums can be negatively effected. The new Sol-Digital range of grow lamps represent a huge breakthrough in this area, providing consistent spectrums and useable light (PAR) at multiple settings. Extensive research has been put into optimizing these lamps for use with Adjusta-Watt ballasts, though they perform fantastically with any compatible high-quality 1000w ballast, be it magnetic or digital.
How to Use the Sol-Digital 1000w HPS Lamp:
Using a clean cloth to hold the lamp, screw the lamp into the E40 bulb-holder fitting of your reflector. Always screw the lamp into the lamp-holder in your reflector as tightly as possible by gripping the lamp with a clean, dry cloth. If the lamp is not screwed in as tightly as possible, arcing can occur between the centre contact of the lamp and the lamp-holder. This melts the solder contact on the bottom of the lamp, causing damage and making it un-useable. Connect your reflector cable to your 1000W HPS ballast. The wattage of your ballast MUST match the wattage of the lamp you are using or there will be a high risk of fires or equipment damage. Ensure the lamp is completely clean and free of dirt, grease and finger-prints before switching on. If you are using a digital ballast can then be adjusted between different outputs without compromising the light spectrum.
Warning: Once the lamp is switched on it runs extremely hot. As with all high pressure sodium and metal halide bulbs it is necessary to avoid touching the lamp with anything such as fingers or plants as this may cause severe burns or fires. In particular avoid sprays or liquids coming into contact with the lamp as this may cause premature failure or even an explosion.
The Sol-Digital 1000w HPS Lamp is an excellent, high-performing grow lamp, but, as with all lamps, the light output it produces will decrease with use over time. One Stop Grow Shop recommends you replace your lamp regularly to maintain garden efficiency.
