Mk1 SMSCom 4.5-Amp Twin Fan Speed Temp Controller
SMSCom 4.5-Amp Twin Fan Speed Temperature Controller
The Smscom Twin Fan Speed Temperature Controller is a quality piece of advanced kit that automatically adjusts the speed of your intake and outlet duct fans to maintain a user-set temperature in your grow room. The Smscom twin fan speed temperature controller also allows the user to select a minimum fan speed (to maintain a certain level of air exchange) and how much faster the outtake fan should run compared to the intake fan (to help keep a negative air-pressure inside the grow-space). After a short "learning" period, the Smscom twin fan speed temperature controller maintains steady fan speeds, increasing the speed when the temperature begins to rise and reducing it when it begins to fall. The Smscom twin fan speed temperature controller really is the bees-knees when comes to precisely controlling your garden environment!
- SMSCom – Great quality and value-for-money
- Gives great control over your garden air temperature
- Controls the speed of both an intake fan and an outlet fan
- Maintains a user-set temperature in your grow-room via an external temperature sensor
- Allows the user to set a minimum fan speed to ensure adequate air exchange even at low temps
- Outlet fan can be set to run faster than the intake fan, ensuring air does not leave or leak out of the room except through the outlet fan
- Water resistent case
- Supplies 2 outputs up to 510 Watts (2.25 Amps) each
Please note: though digital fan speed controllers (like this one) are a very cost-effective solution, they may generate a humming sound. This is an unavoidable consequence of using 'pulse width modulation' to regulate fan output. We highly recommend SMSCom Hybrid Fan Speed Controllers, which instead use heavyweight transformers and run completely silent. How the SMSCom 4.5-Amp Twin Fan Speed Temperature Controller Works:
The Smscom 4.5-Amp twin fan speed temperature controller is a great piece of kit that automatically controls the speed of your intake and outlet fans to maintain the temperature that you set. The Smscom twin fan speed temperature controller has a temperature sensor on a flying lead which can be placed in the grow-room in an appropriate place. The Smscom twin fan speed temperature controller has two mains sockets under protective flaps on the front. One socket is for the intake fan, the other socket is for the outlet fan.
The user has 3 controls to set on the front of the Smscom Twin Fan Speed Temperature Controller. The first control allows the user to set a minimum fan speed. This allows the user to set the lowest fan speed required for adequate air exchange in the garden space, even if the temperature goes low. The second control on the Smscom Twin Fan Speed Temperature Controller allows the user to set the desired temperature to be maintained. The third control allows the user to increase the amount that the outlet fan runs compared to the intake fan. This maintains a "negative air pressure" ensuring that air always leaves the room via the extraction fan and not through gaps around doors etc.
Once the Smscom Twin Fan Speed Temperature Controller has been set up and switched on, it will find the ideal fan speeds to maintain the temperature set by the user. This process initially takes the Smscom Twin Fan Speed Temperature Controller several minutes as it "learns" how much the fan-speeds affect the temperature in your particular grow-space using your particular fans. The fan speeds will never go below the minimum set by the user, even if goes cold. This ensures that your plants will get the fresh air they need to grow, no matter what the air temperature is.
Using the SMSCom 4.5-Amp Twin Fan Speed Temperature Controller:
Plug your inlet fan into the left-hand socket under the flap on the front of the Smscom twin fan speed controller and which is marked "FAN AIR IN". Plug your outlet fan into the right-hand socket under the flap on the front of the Smscom twin fan speed controller and which is marked "FAN AIR OUT".
Locate the temperature sensor of the Smscom twin fan speed controller, on the grey flying lead, in an appropriate place in the grow-room. A good place is usually in the centre of the room at roughly the same height as the tops of your plants.
Set the desired minimum fan speed, room temperature and extra outlet speed via the dials on the front of the Smscom Twin Fan Speed Temperature Controller. The unit can now be plugged in to switch it on. The unit will then spend several minutes learning how the fan speeds affect the grow-space temperature and then will run the fans at a steady rate, adjusting as and when necessary.
Remember, the minimum fan speed that you set on the front of the Smscom Twin Fan Speed Temperature Controller always needs to be high enough to remove adequate amounts of stale air from your grow space, even when the room is cold. If the fan speed is too low, there may not be enough fresh air exchange to replenish CO2 for optimal plant growth. Also, having your fan speed too low may not keep the humidity down enough for good plant growth and to reduce the chances of mould or rot during flowering.
The Smscom twin fan speed temperature controller can adjust the speed of fans with a maximum power consumption of 510 Watts (current draw of 2.25 Amps) each. However, it should never be used to control the speed of circulation type fans which generally have their own speed control. Using the Smscom twin fan speed temperature controller to control a circulation fan will invariably burn out the controller or the fan itself.
