Which size dehumidifier do I need? A good rule of thumb is to make sure that your dehumidifier is able to remove enough water to account for the water that you give to your plants. If you're giving them 50 litres per day, then make sure that your dehumidifier is able to cope with that volume of water.
Getting your environmental parameters within optimal ranges is the key to successful growing. Relative humidity plays a huge role in dictating the growth rates of your plants. When humidity levels are too low, the rate of transpiration increases, causing the plant to lose too much water. Likewise, when humidity levels are too high, growth rates slow down dramatically, and the door is also opened up to an array of moisture-related issues, like powdery mildew and botrytis (rot). As plants reach their later stages, they can put a lot of water vapour into the surrounding atmosphere. Much of this vapour will leave the room via your extraction system, but if humidity levels in the room are still too high, then you're going to need some extra help...

How to Use the Quest CDG 74:
Set-up for this unit is quick and easy. All you need to do is plug it into a wall socket. Quest dehumidifiers come with power cables fitted with 3-pin plugs, so you're good to go.
The CDG 74 comes with a length of pipe and a connector which needs to be attached to water outlet point located at the side of the unit. Just put the other end of the pipe wherever you want to send the water, whether it be to your tank or down the drain.
You can also use it with high-end controllers like the Dimlux Maxi Controller and the G.A.S. Enviro Controller. Both systems are able to detect moisture levels in the air via humidity sensors. All you need to do is plug the CDG74 into the socket on your controller and consult the manual for information on programming it correctly. If moisture levels go above your ideal daytime or night-time setting, your controller will switch on dehumidifying equipment as needed. This beats using the built-in humidistat because you get to choose different settings for different times of the day instead of a single overall setting. Don't forget that, if you do decide to use it with a Maxi Controller, you'll also need the separately available humidity probe and Aux Box unit.
