How the Plant!t Gemini - Dripper/DWC Combo System Works:
The Plant!t Gemini is a grow-system with a real difference. It can be configured in one of 2 different ways - either as a dripper-only system or as part-dripper, part-DWC system! The Plant!t Gemini Dripper/DWC system consists chiefly of an 18 litre grow-chamber which sits partly inside a reservoir-chamber. A water pump and flow-ring delivery system transports the nutrient solution from the reservoir to the top of the grow chamber.
The Plant!t Gemini grow-chamber can either be completely filled with clay-pebbles to make a dripper only system OR the grow-chamber can be separated into 2 halves with the supplied floor insert. When the grow-chamber is split with the floor insert, we recommend an airstone is placed in the lower half to turn it into a DWC chamber. The top half is then filled with clay pebbles to work as a dripper system. The choice of whether to run it as a dripper-only system or to run it as a dripper + DWC combo system is left up to you!
Using the Plant!t Gemini as a Dripper + DWC combo requires an Air Pumps & Airstones
Using the Plant!t Gemini as a Dripper-only system requires an extra 8 litres of Clay Pebbles on top of the 10 litres which are supplied.
Both configurations will require a Timer (not supplied) to time the feeds by switching the water pump on and off.
Using the Plant!t Gemini - Dripper/DWC Combo System) Module:
Before using the Plant!t Gemini, you will need to decide whether you wish to configure it as a dripper-only system or as a dripper + DWC combo system.
Always wash clay pebbles before use to remove the clay-dust produced during transportation. It can be a good idea to soak them for a day or two in pH adjusted water before use , if possible.
For a Dripper + DWC combo: Place the reservoir in the location that it will be used and place the grow-chamber onto the support shoulders inside the reservoir. We highly recommend you place an air stone connected to an air pump via an air line at the bottom of the lower grow-chamber. Always put your air-pump on a stand so that it will be above the water level when the reservoir is filled (approximately 12 inches off the ground) so that nutrient solution cannot “siphon” back into the air-pump if there is a power outage or should it be accidentally switched off when the reservoir is still full. We always recommend the use of a non-return / check valve just to make doubly sure that back-siphoning cannot occur.
The floor shelf should then be fitted inside the grow-chamber. Drop the delivery pipe through the hole on the inside at the front of the grow-chamber and fit the water pump onto the bottom of it. The delivery ring should stand horizontally at the top of the grow-chamber. Fill the grow-chamber with the 10 litres of clay pebbles. Fill the reservoir to the very top blue reservoir level indicator mark (approximately 15 litres) with nutrient solution. Switch on your air pump and leave it running 24/7. Never allow the reservoir level to go down below the second mark on the reservoir level indicator as this will mean the lower DWC grow-chamber will be too empty to encourage roots to grow into it. Set your plant into the clay pebbles and run the water pump for several minutes. We advise the use of a 24 hour segmental timer to deliver timed feedings. When your plant is small it may only require one or two 15-minute feeds a day for optimum growth. As your plant gets larger, more frequent feedings will be required.
For a Dripper-only system: Place the reservoir in the location that it will be used and place the grow-chamber onto the support shoulders inside the reservoir. Do not fit the floor shelf but store it away in case you decide to use the Gemini as a combo system at another time. Drop the delivery pipe through the hole on the inside at the front of the grow-chamber and fit the water pump onto the bottom of it. The delivery ring should stand horizontally at the top of the grow-chamber. Fill the grow-chamber with approximately 18 litres of clay pebbles. Only 10 litres are supplied in the kit so an additional 8 litres will be required. Fill the reservoir with approximately 10 litres of nutrient solution until the 3rd mark down on the reservoir level indicator is reached.
Set your plant into the clay pebbles and run the water pump for several minutes. We advise the use of a 24 hour segmental timer to deliver timed feedings. When your plant is small it may only require one or two 15-minute feeds a day for optimum growth. As your plant gets larger, more frequent feedings will be required.
Preventing Water Damage: Even with a carefully set up hydroponic system, occasionally a seal can fail, a pipe can come come adrift, or a reservoir can even split, causing a considerable amount of water to be released onto the floor. Plan ahead and plan for the worst. For example, sit your system in a high-sided Run-off or Work Tray, or use our Floor Secure Sheeting on your grow- room floor. It can be fitted so that it rides up each wall by a few inches, creating a “floor-basin” which could help prevent a huge amount of water damage if the worst should ever happen. In this regard it is much better to be safe than sorry!
