How the Photon LED Grow Light Module Works
Photon have revolutionised the concept of LED grow lighting by creating a modular design. Each module has a 65 watt power draw and outputs over 2 µmols of full spectrum PAR light per watt (PAR is short for Photosynthetically Active Radiation, which is plant usable light). Full spectrum LEDs are now the industry standard for premium quality LED grow lights.
Notice that's there a generous helping of blue light which encourages lots of terpene and flavonoid production. In short, the green and yellow are great for productivity and plant health. The orange and the red in the spectrum are great for big yields.
The hexagonal shape of the fully sealed Photon LED grow light means that many units can be joined along their flat edges to allow a diverse amounts of cluster shapes which are similar to a honeycomb pattern. We would generally recommend that no more than 7 are attached together in any single cluster. By daisy chaining, up to 30 units can be powered from one mains socket which works out at up to 4 clusters of 7 units (28 units in total). 28 units will adequately illuminate an area up to 2.4m x 2.4m.
The various possible configurations of the clusters mean that Photon 65 LED grow lights can be made to correctly illuminate even the most unusual shapes of grow spaces.
How to use the Photon LED Grow Lights
Photon recommend using one module per 0.16-0.20 m2 (about 0.4m x 0.4m) of grow space. A cluster of 5 suits a 1m x 1m grow space. A cluster of 7 suits a 1.2m x 1.2m area.
Once you have decide on the configuration of the modules, connect them together using the supplied brackets and the fittings. An allen key it provided for this purpose. For any cluster of 4 or more, Photon highly recommend the use of their support brackets to make sure that the arrangement is solid, or just to provide a central hanging point between 2 units. Even with the use of support bracket, we do not recommend bolting together more than 7 units into a single cluster.
Screw the large eyelet finger-tight into the centre of the unit(s) or into a support bracket. Use the eyelet(s) to hang the unit(s) up to as far as 750mm above the canopy. The beam angle is just 60° which is fairly concentrated and helps to increase the intensity. The closer to the canopy the modules are hung, the more intense the light will be, and the deeper it will penetrate. However, the size of the footprint will also be reduced. With the ability to add extra modules you will be able to balance the intensity of the light with the footprint and height above the canopy as required.
