How the Omega V-Pro Grow Light Works

The Omega V-Pro is a complete fixture that combines a ballast, reflector and lamp in one unit:

400 Volt Ballast

The ballast inside this fixture converts a 230-volt mains supply to run 400-volt lamps. As a result, its lighting output is greater than regular 230-volt lighting equipment, despite using the same power. This allows you to produce bigger and better yields for the same cost. A real no brainer!

It features four output settings: 600w, 750w, 1000w and 1150w overdrive mode. This functionality allows you to tailor your lighting output to match your environment. For instance, if your grow room gets too hot, you can turn the output level down to reduce temperatures and keep plants photosynthesising. This is a much better option than letting temps get out of hand (which will stunt growth altogether).

Reflector

The V-Pro comes fitted with a standard, closed reflector. This reflector works best when growing with your lighting further away from plants. If you want to get your lighting closer, then we'd suggest opting for the wide angle version, which pushes more light outwards, instead of straight down. When combined with reflective sidewalls, wide angle reflectors hit plants from multiple directions, facilitating even growth. By getting your lighting closer, you'll make your indoor garden more efficient, utilising the energy from your lamp more effectively.

Lamp

The V-Pro is compatible with double-ended 1000w / 400v lamps. Use the dropdown menu to choose between Omega HPS, Omega Metal Halide and Philips Greenpower options.

The metal halide lamp produces an intense full-spectrum light that mimics the sun. We recommend the halide for use during the vegetative stages or as a supplementary light. If you're looking for a standalone flowering lamp then the HPS still beats it, thanks to its high concentrations of light in the red areas of the spectrum. When you combine the two, however, you get the best of boths worlds: the HPS piles on weight while the halide fills in the spectral gaps, increasing the quality.

We've also given you the option to upgrade to Philips Greenpower lamps, which have proven themselves over many years in professional greenhouses the world over. The Greenpower will deliver bigger yields than its Omega counterparts, due to the fact that it runs at a greater intensity, easily justifying the extra initial spend with plenty of extra produce at harvest time.

 

How to Use the V-Pro

Simply hang the combined ballast & reflector over the centre of the grow-space at an appropriate height using easy rolls or jack chain. Fit the lamp by moving the two ceramic sliders, inserting the lamp and moving the sliders back in place (see the diagram below).

Set the power control switch to the desired power output (600 watts, 660 watts, 750 watts, 825 watts, 1000 watts or 1150 watts. Run the lead from the reflector to a standard UK mains outlet or your contactor and switch on.

Warning 1: When it is time to change out the lamp, make sure that it is replaced with another 400 Volt / 1000 Watt Pro HPS lamp. Using a standard HPS lamp in a 400 Volt lighting system will possibly cause damage, explosions or fire. Fit the lamp as shown in the image above so that the side with the small square is closest to the ballast and the other end is at the outer edge of the reflector.

Warning 2: When HID lamps are switched on they run extremely hot. As with all high pressure sodium and metal halide bulbs it is necessary to avoid touching the lamp with anything such as fingers or plants as this may cause severe burns or fires. In particular avoid sprays or liquids coming into contact with the lamp as this may cause premature failure or even an explosion.
