If you want bigger and better yields, we'd recommend going for the digital version instead. Boasting variable wattage output, low heat output and virtually silent operation, the Optilux 600w digital ballast is more efficient, delivering more light per watt of electricity. This produces more end-product!
How the Optilux 600w Magnetic Ballast Works
The Optilux magnetic ballast converts mains electricity to the correct voltage and current to start-up and power a 600 watt HPS or MH lamp by using a traditional magnetic core & coil system. The mains cable and the output cable are 1.3 metres long each and the unit is fuse protected against short circuits. The Optilux magnetic ballast is reliable, great value-for-money and made with quality internal components, making it excellent for new growers and experienced horticulturists alike.
How to Use the Optilux Magnetic Ballast
Like all core and coil type ballasts, the Optilux runs warm in use and should be located on a flat, firm, surface (not carpet) in a well-ventilated place. It should never be covered and there should be no combustible items in the vicinity. Connect the input lead of your reflector to the output lead of the ballast ensuring the cable is not pulled tight and does not come into contact with anything hot (e.g. lamp, reflector, ballast). Ensure your lamp is tightly screwed into the bulb-holder and that your reflector is at the correct height.
The wattage of your ballast MUST match the wattage of the lamp you are using or there will be a high risk of fires or equipment damage. Always consider the inrush current drawn by a ballast when it is switched on. Your mains supply may trip out if several come on at the same time. Connect the mains plug into an electrical outlet socket and switch on. The 600w ballast will start-up and light the lamp. Please note that in the event of an interruption to the mains supply, the ballast will not be able to restart the lamp until it has cooled back down. In this event it is best to switch the ballast off for 10-15 minutes until the lamp has cooled sufficiently for the ballast to be able to restart it. Always leave the ballast for at least 3 minutes after switching off to allow it to discharge before disconnecting the reflector. In the event there is a short circuit on the output, the 600w ballast is fuse-protected for your safety.
For use with 600W HPS or MH-conversion lamps only.
