How the Gavita 1000 Watt EL DE Lamp Works:
Used by the grow industry, Professional 400 Volt HPS lamps have a number of key benefits which makes them superior to standard HPS lamps - even ones being run from top-quality digital ballasts.
A 400 Volt HPS lamp is much more efficient than a standard HPS lamp. Both systems consume 1000 Watts and therefore cost exactly the same to run but the Pro HPS lamps run at a higher voltage and a lower current. 400 Volt Pro HPS lamps produce more light for the same power consumption and will give at least 10% higher yield compared to even the best standard HPS systems. In fact, when they are seen side-by-side, the HPS Pro lamps are noticeably brighter, run cooler and the light they produce is slightly whiter. So in addition to them giving a higher yield, plants grown under a 400 Volt Pro HPS are healthier, happier and are at less risk of heat damage too. The way that the system works is that UK mains power (230 Volts) is fed directly to the combined ballast and reflector via a standard mains power lead. The special ballast then converts the mains electricity to drive the special double ended 400 Volt / 1000 Watt EL DE lamp.
The Gavita 400 Volt / 1000 Watt EL DE lamp maintains it efficiency and light output for much longer than standard HPS lamps. In fact, they will normally last at least a year before they need to be changed out. It should be noted that normal HPS lamps and 400 Volt Pro HPS lamps are NOT interchangeable with different ballasts. Standard HPS lamps should only be used with standard or digital 230 Volt ballasts. 400 Volt HPS lamps should only be used in lighting systems with a 400 Volt Pro HPS ballast like with this Gavita product.
How to Use the Gavita 1000 Watt EL DE Lamp:
This lamp is a like-for-like replacement for that supplied with the Gavita Pro 400 Volt / 1000 Watt HPS Lighting Kit.
Always turn the power off at the mains supply before performing maintenance on any lighting equipment.
Lift the Gavita Pro 1000w so that its underside can comfortably be reached, using your hanging equipment. To remove the original lamp, you will first need to locate the two plastic sliders that secure it in place. Move one of the sliders to the outer edge of the unit, by gently applying pressure to the inside edge of the slider while holding the lamp in position. Still holding the lamp, move the other slider outwards and carefully lower it from its housing. The original lamp can then be disposed of safely.
Remove the 1000w EL DE Replacement Bulb from its box using a clean anti-static cloth to ensure that no grease or dirt makes contact with the glass. Fingerprints and impurities can dramatically lower the efficiency of your lighting equipment. Fitting the new lamp is as simple as removing the original. Position the lamp so that the two wires either side sit inside the housing and move the sliders back into their inside position to secure it in place. An image can be found above that shows which way round to fit it. A small square can be seen on one side of the lamp - this side needs to go closest to the ballast and the other side goes closest to the outer edge of your reflector.
Once you are sure that the lamp has been properly fitted, power may be turned back on, remembering to re-adjust timers if necessary.
Gavita Standard Reflector
The reflector found with your 750w or 1000w Gavita Pro fixture (as well as the Hortistar) will naturally degrade over time and will need replacing regularly, ideally yearly. Swapping out your old reflector for this replacement will ensure that your grow lighting is running as efficiently as possible and help to increase efficiency, maximising potential yields.

Gavita Wide Angled Reflector
Specifically developed for your 750w or 1000w Gavita Pro fixture (as well as Hortistar). The W150 DE is a wide spread reflector, it's designed for larger grow rooms without too much head space or for multi light set ups to increase coverage, however it produces fantastic results when used in a smaller space.
We have tested the Wide Angle reflector in a 1.2m x 1.2m tent attached to a 1000w Gavita and found that it significantly reduced hotspots directly below the lamp and drastically increased output towards the sides, increasing overall yield. and we were able to get the light 6-12 inches closer to your plant without risking burning, giving you the ability to grow bigger plants.
