Convert your reflector to full spectrum 315w CDM light that gives more yield per watt than HPS!

CDM (Ceramic Discharge Metal-Halide) lamps give out an intense full spectrum light that plants love. This kit converts your current reflectors E40 lamp fitting for use with a CDM lamp. This kit contains a perfect solution for getting the most out of plants during flowering, giving you fantastic yields and flavour at the same time as saving you money on energy. The great efficiency of Philips CDM lamps gives results that can beat a 400w HPS and even some of the lower quality 600w grow lights out there, but they only use 315 Watts!

  • Save on your electricity bills and produce the same yields!
  • CDM - full spectrum light output that plants love
  • Less heat output than equivalent HPS lights
  • Gives off 1.9 umols PPF per watt - amazingly efficient!

How the E40 to CDM Adapter 315w CDM Grow Light Kit Works

CDM lamps produce an incredibly intense full spectrum light that plants love, so which lamp should I use?

Philips GreenPower 930 Elite Agro CDM Lamp

Philips CDM 930 Spectrum Graph

The 315w Philips GreenPower 930 Elite Agro CDM Lamp is perfect for flowering/fruiting as it has a very high PPF (photosynthetic photon flux) which a way of quantifying the amount of light that plants can actually use.

Philips CDM 942 Spectrum Graph

We recommend using the The Philips MasterColour 942 Daylight CDM Lamp during veg growth which gives off a crisp white light, producing an amazing rate of growth, good branching and very short internode length.

The black line in the graph above represents the "McCree Curve", which gives a relative indication of how efficiently a plant uses the different colours in the light spectrum to photosynthesise with.

The Ballast, a Maxibright Daylight 315w has all the incredible features of the DigiLight range but additionally is designed to get the best out of the Philips 315w lamp included in the kit. The ballast features Soft-Start technology to help avoid nuisance-tripping on start-up, particularly if you have more than one of these units starting up at the same time. On top of that, the Daylight ballast includes end-of-lamp-life detection, dynamic frequency control, short-circuit detection, thermal protection and auto-reset. The unit runs silently and is reasonably light weight.

How to Use the E40 to CDM Adapter 315w CDM Grow Light Kit

Screw the E40 to CDM adaptor into the E40 socket of your reflector as tightly as possible. If it is not screwed in so that it will turn no more then there is a risk of a poor contact on the centre pin which could cause electrical arcing and damage to the reflector and the adaptor. Always use a clean cloth to hold the glass of the new one. This is because the oils on the skin of your hands (even if they have just been washed) can cause damage to the lamp when it is switched on and becomes hot. Note that the 2 pins on the base of the lamp have different size rings on the ends of the pins. Insert the base of the lamp into the lamp holder ensuring that the small ring enters the small hole in the base of the lamp-holder, and the large ring enters the the large hole in the base of the lamp-holder. Give the lamp about a quarter turn clockwise to lock it in place (until it turns no more).

As with all ballasts, this Maxibright Daylight 315w Ballast should be located on a flat, firm, surface (not carpet) in a well-ventilated place. Ballasts should never be covered and ideally there should be no combustible items in the vicinity, just in case. Connect the input lead of your reflector to the output lead of the ballast ensuring the cable is not pulled tight and does not encounter anything hot (e.g. lamp, reflector, ballast).

The wattage of your ballast MUST match the wattage of the lamp you are using or there will be a high risk of fires or equipment damage. Only use the Maxibright ballast that comes with this kit for firing up the CDM lamps. Never use a HPS or MH ballast with CDM lamps. Connect the mains plug into an electrical outlet socket and switch on. The Maxibright CDM ballast will start-up and light the lamp.

PLEASE NOTE: The 315w CDM lamps need to be bedded in as follows: on first illumination the lamp needs to be run continuously for a minimum of 15 minutes. This will allow the metals within the lamp to fuse correctly.

FALIURE TO DO THIS WILL RESULT IN LAMP FAILIURE!
If the above is not adhered to, lamp warranty claims will be void.

Warning: When CDM HID (High Intensity Discharge) lamps are switched on they run extremely hot. As with all HID lamps it is necessary to avoid touching the lamp with anything such as fingers or plants as this may cause severe burns or fires. In particular, avoid sprays or liquids coming into contact with the lamp as this may cause premature failure or even an explosion.
