How the Double Cool Shade With Wings Works:

The Double Cool Shade 6-inch (150mm) With Wings is a heat resistant glass tube containing an E40 lamp-holder at each end and a reflector-panel. Utilising 2 lamps allows you to easily illuminate a large area, such as a 1.5m grow-tent with this reflector. Alternatively one HPS and one MH lamp can be used to give your garden the benefit of light in both the red and blue spectrums. Air is blown through the cool-shade by a 6-inch (150mm) extractor fan connected by 6-inch (150mm) ducting (fan and ducting not supplied) which is then expelled outside of the grow-room. The air blowing through the shade directly cools the lamp and removes the hot air inside the cool tube. In this way the glass of the cool-tube only gets warm only, not hot. This allows the reflector to be placed closer to your lamps and helps to prevent the air in your grow-room from getting too warm. The Double Cool Shade now includes external wings, improving the reflector's effectiveness.

How to Use the Double Cool Shade With Wings:

The Double Cool Shade 6-inch (150mm) With Wings is designed for use with any 400W or 600W HPS or MH lamps. Simply hang the reflector over the centre of the grow-space at an appropriate height using easy rolls or jack chain. Take out the screws holding the metal ends to the Cool Tube and remove them. Using a clean cloth insert one 400W or 600W MH or HPS lamp into each E40 bulb-holder and screw them in very firmly. Refit the ends into the Cool Shade and screw the retaining screws back in. Connect your 6-inch (150mm) extractor fan to one end of the cool shade via 6-inch (150mm) ducting and clamp it in place. It is recommended that, if possible, the extractor fan should be connected on the inlet side of the Cool Tube so that it blows cold air through it rather than on the outlet side sucking hot air out, which may reduce the lifespan of your extractor fan. 6-inch (150mm) ducting can be connected to the other end of the Cool Tube to vent the hot air out of the grow room. When the fan is running and air is flowing through the Cool Tube, the power leads can be connected into appropriate ballasts for each of your HPS/MH type lamps and switched on.

Please Note: HID lamps should never be switched on unless a fan is moving air through the Cool Tube or overheating will result in damage to the reflector and lamp.

If a larger diameter fan is connected to this shade via a reducer, the high air-flow may cool your lamp too much which will alter it's colour output spectrum, making it much less effective. Only use a 6-inch (150mm) fan with this Cool Shade Reflector.

Warning: When HID lamps are switched on they run extremely hot. As with all high pressure sodium and metal halide bulbs it is necessary to avoid touching the lamp with anything such as fingers or plants as this may cause severe burns or fires. In particular avoid sprays or liquids coming into contact with the lamp as this may cause premature failure or even an explosion.
