Control Freak 6-Amp Dual Fan Speed Controller

Maintain Optimal Growroom Temps with a Dual Fan Controller

The Control Freak 6-Amp Dual Fan Speed Controller is a compact and elegant looking unit that takes care of regulating the output speeds of your extraction and intake fan, in order to maintain an optimal environment. The better the environment, the happier the plants, and the bigger the yields!

  • Helps to maintain an optimal garden air temperature
  • Controls the speed of both intake and outlet fans
  • Maintains a user-set temperature in your grow-room via a temperature sensor
  • Allows the user to set a minimum fan speed to ensure adequate air exchange even at low temps
  • Maximum fan speed setting – great for using oversized fans
  • Supplies 2 outputs of up to 690 watts (3 amps) each

Please note: though digital fan speed controllers (like this one) are a very cost-effective solution, they may generate a humming sound. This is an unavoidable consequence of using pulse width modulation to regulate fan output. We highly recommend SMSCom Hybrid Fan Speed Controllers, which instead use heavyweight transformers and run completely silent. For more information, see this post on the One Stop Grow Shop Blog: Fan Controllers - Why Are There Different Types?

This fan speed controller is not designed for use with Isomax fans. If that’s your intention, then please take a look at the SMSCom Hybrid Controller or the silent Control Freak models instead.

How the Control Freak Dual Fan Speed Controller Works:

The Control Freak Dual Fan Speed Controller is a compact, elegant looking unit that takes care of regulating your intake fan and extraction system. It has two sockets on the front (intake and extraction) and 3 controller knobs. The first control allows the user to set a minimum fan speed. This is the lowest fan speed required for adequate air exchange in the garden space. Make sure you keep this high enough to maintain negative pressure. The second control is for your chosen temperature setting. The third controller knob is for your maximum fan speed. This is particularly useful when using oversized duct fans. If your fan is larger than required for the size of the grow area, you may not want it to kick in at full speed – using the maximum fan speed knob will ensure that this doesn’t happen.

How to Use the Control Freak:

Plug your inlet fan into the left-hand socket and plug your outlet fan into the right-hand socket .

Locate the temperature sensor in an appropriate place in the grow-room. A good place is usually in the centre of the room at roughly the same height as the tops of your plants, but away from direct light.

Set the desired minimum fan speed, room temperature and maximum fan speed using the dials on the front. The unit can now be plugged in to switch it on.

Remember that the minimum fan speed that you set always needs to be high enough to remove adequate amounts of stale air from your grow space, even when the room is cold. If the fan speed is too low, there may not be enough fresh air exchange to replenish CO2 for optimal plant growth. Also, having your fan speed too low may not keep the humidity down enough for good plant growth and to reduce the chances of mould or rot during flowering.

This Control Freak controller can adjust the speed of fans with a maximum power consumption of 690 watts each. However, it should never be used to control the speed of circulation type fans which generally have their own speed control. Using this Control Freak to control a circulation fan will invariably burn out the controller or the fan itself.
