How the Adjusta-Watt 1000 Watt Ballast Works:
The Adjusta-Watt 1000 Watt Switchable Digital Ballast converts mains electricity to the correct voltage and current to start-up and power a 400, 600 or 1000 Watt HPS or MH lamp by using a microprocessor to constantly monitor and control a digital power-output system. Digital Ballasts produce more lumen output, use less electricity and do not degrade with age like core and coil type ballasts which become noisy, use more electricity and produce less lumens as they get older.
Adjusta-Watt have designed this switchable ballast so that it can be used at a variety of wattages. 600 Watt lamps can be used at 600 Watts or “turned down” to 400 Watts. 1000 Watt lamps can be used at 1000 watts or “turned down” to 600 Watts or 400 Watts. 1000 Watt lamps only can be overdriven to produce an extra 5-10% extra light output. 400 Watt lamps can only be used at 400 watts.
The Adjusta-Watt Ballast is over 94% efficient at all output wattages meaning that it runs very cool (below 25C under normal conditions) and it doesn’t even need a noisy cooling fan. Special attention has been paid to making a product that produces almost no RF interference. In other words, it will not interfere with the signal reception of televisions, radios or wireless broadband signals. The Adjusta-Watt ballast features a “soft-start” system which does not produce a surge when it starts a lamp. This means that several Adjusta-Watt ballasts can be started at the same time without a surge tripping out the mains. The Adjusta-Watt also features full protection circuitry which guards against Open Circuit, Short Circuit, Over Voltage and Over Temperature. In the event of a fault, the Adjusta-Watt Ballast will go into “protection mode” to avoid damage.
How to Use the Adjusta-Watt Ballast:
Although the Adjusta-Watt 1000 Watt Switchable Digital Ballast runs fairly cool in use, it should still be located on a flat, firm, surface (not carpet) and in a well-ventilated location. It should never be covered and there should be no combustible items in the vicinity just in case. Connect the input lead of your reflector to the output lead of the ballast ensuring the cable is not pulled tight and does not come into contact with anything hot (e.g. lamp, reflector, ballast). Ensure your lamp is tightly screwed into the bulb-holder and that your reflector is at the correct height.
Use the power-output switch to select the desired output wattage. 400 Watt lamps can only be used at 400 Watts. 600 Watt lamps can be used at 600 Watts or turned down to 400 Watts. 1000 Watt lamps can be used at 1000 Watts or turned down to 600 Watts or 400 Watts. 1000 Watt lamps only can also be used on the “overdrive” setting which increases the output by 5-10%, increasing the light produced by the lamp. Once the correct output wattage has been selected, connect the mains plug into an electrical outlet socket and switch on. The ballast will start-up and light the lamp.
In the event of a fault, e.g. a faulty lamp or high ballast temperature, the ballast will go into protection mode. Once the problem has been rectified, the ballast can be restarted by pressing the reset button. The Adjusta-Watt also has “hot-restrike” protection: in the event of an interruption to the mains supply, the ballast will test the temperature of the lamps every 60 seconds and only re-strike them once they are cool enough to do so.
