How the 315w Maxibright Daylight CDM/CMH Lamps Work
Ceramic Discharge Metal Halide lamps (sometimes just called Ceramic metal halide, or CMH) have been used for many years for their great light output and spectrum. They are ideal for applications where natural light is desirable like outdoor lighting and car showrooms. I more recent years, they have begun to be used as plant grow lights. There are many advantages to using CDMs as grow lights. Due to their full spectrum light output, they offer fantastic plant health, fast growth and superb crop quality. Compared to HPS, the blue in the spectrum of CDMs reduces the length of the internodes and reduces vertical stretch. Maxibright offer their CDM lamps in 2 versions. The 3K Agro contains lots of red for great yields when used as a standalone light. The larger amount of blue in the 4K version makes it great for vegetative growth or as a supplemental light. When it is used in combination with HPS lights, the extra blue and far-red output of the CDM will greatly increase crop quality by encouraging greater essential oil production and flavour in the end product.

How to use a Maxibright Daylight 315w CDM lamp:
CDM lamps use a bayonet type fitting and need to be used with a dedicated CDM reflector with the correct type of lamp holder, or with an E40 to CDM adaptor. CDM lamps must only be used with CDM ballasts which are designed to run them. CDM lamps are not compatible with HPS or standard MH ballasts.
If you are replacing an old lamp, remove the old lamp by grasping it and giving it about a quarter turn anti-clockwise. The lamp can then be removed from the lamp-holder. Always use a clean cloth to hold the glass of the new one. This is because the oils on the skin of your hands (even if they have just been washed) can cause damage to the lamp when it is switched on and becomes hot. Note that the 2 pins on the base of the lamp have different size rings on the ends of the pins. Insert the base of the lamp into the lamp holder ensuring that the small ring enters the small hole in the base of the lamp-holder, and the large ring enters the large hole in the base of the lamp-holder. Give the lamp about a quarter turn clockwise to lock it in place (until it turns no more). Your grow light can now be switched on.
Warning: Although CDM lamps produce less heat per watt than other types of HID lamp, when they are switched on they still run extremely hot. As with all HID grow lamps it is necessary to avoid touching the lamp with anything such as fingers or plants as this may cause severe burns or fires. In particular avoid sprays or liquids coming into contact with the lamp as this may cause premature failure or even an explosion.
PLEASE NOTE: All CDM lamps need to be bedded in as follows: on first illumination lamps need to be run continuously for a minimum of 15-30 minutes (although we would recommend that they are first run for much longer such as several hours). This run-in process allow the metals within the lamp to fuse correctly.
FAILURE TO DO THIS WILL RESULT IN LAMP FAILURE!
If the above is not adhered to, lamp warranty claims will be void.
As with all lamps the light output they produce will decrease with use over time. One Stop Grow Shop recommends you replace your lamp regularly to maintain your garden efficiency.
