  • Delivers high levels of intensity in the optimal areas for plant growth and development
  • Comes with the Maxibright Horizon, as featured in our Expert Grow Kit
  • Makes an excellent supplementary light when placed between two HPS systems
  • Choose between two high-quality ballasts
  • Gives off 1.9 umols PPF per watt - amazingly efficient!

High-Performance Supplementary Lighting that's Also Great as a Standalone

This kit includes the Maxibright Horizon - a wide-angle reflector that throws light outwards instead of pushing it straight down, making this a great supplementary set-up for use between two HPS systems. With air vents at the side, it dissipates heat more effectively, so you can get it closer to your plants than regular reflectors. You can choose from the two best CDM ballasts out there: the Maxibright Daylight and the Sol-Digital SuperBRIGHT. They will drive the supplied Philips lamp efficiently and effectively, and come with an array of features. For us, the Sol-Digital just pips it as the better ballast (due to it having a couple of extra features), but it's a close call.

We also offer a choice between the Philips GreenPower 930 Elite Agro Lamp and the Philips MasterColour 942 Daylight. The Elite Agro emits a broad light-spectrum that’s heavier in the red area, making it better for adding weight and improving oil production when flowering. The 942 Daylight's spectrum is optimised for rapid vegetative growth. It'll help to reduce your veg times and shorten the length of internodes, for tighter, stronger plants with less stretching. This helps you to make the best use of the space in your indoor garden, and in turn, will help you to maximise your yields.

How the Horizon Reflector CDM Grow Light Kit Works:

CDM lamps produce an incredibly intense full spectrum light that plants love, so which lamp should I use?

Philips CDM 930 Spectrum Graph

The GreenPower 930 Elite Agro is perfect for flowering / fruiting as it has a very high PPF (photosynthetic photon flux) level. PPF levels quantify the useable plant light that will impact plant growth.

Philips CDM 942 Spectrum Graph

We recommend using the the MasterColour 942 Daylight during veg growth. It gives off a crisp, white light, that delivers accelerated growth rates, good branching and short internodes. Using a properly optimised veg lamp will keep your plants shorter and will help you to use your grow space more efficiently.

The black line in the graph above represents the "McCree Curve", which gives a relative indication of how efficiently a plant uses the different colours in the light spectrum to photosynthesise with. To learn more about our light spectrum graphs and how they affect your plant, check out our blog.

The Maxibright Horizon reflector produces a wider light spread than other CDM reflectors. Because it's wide-angled and open at the sides, it also dissipates heat more easily, so you can get it closer to the canopy. Light from this reflector hits plants at the sides and not just the top, which helps to replicate an outdoor environment, maximising growth rates. This reflector is great as a standalone, but really comes into its own as part of a supplementary system. Place it between two HPS lights and it will enhance the quality of the end-product without adding too much heat to the grow area. Very highly recommended - we even included one in our high-end Expert Grow Kit.

We offer a choice between the Maxibright Daylight and the Sol-Digital SuperBRIGHT ballast. Both are excellent ballasts that will drive Philips CDM lamps efficiently and effectively, but the Sol-Digital ballast comes with some interesting features that give it the edge, including ignition control, which prevents surges and spikes, and automatic frequency adjustment, which maintains a constant output from the lamp during input power fluctuations. Both feature soft start technology, to reduce inrush current, and intelligent circuit protection to keep your grow room safe and give you peace of mind. You won’t go wrong with either.

How to use the Horizon Reflector CDM Grow Light Kit:

Simply hang the reflector over the centre of the grow-space at an appropriate height using easy rolls, rope ratchet hangers or jack chain. Fit the lamp into the reflector. Make sure that the lamp is clean and completely free of fingerprints and other contaminants. Finally, make sure that your reflector is hung at the correct height.

The ballast should be located on a flat, firm, surface (not carpet) in a well-ventilated place. Connect the input lead of your reflector to the output lead of the ballast ensuring the cable is not pulled tight and does not encounter anything hot (e.g. lamp, reflector, ballast).

The wattage of your ballast MUST match the wattage of the lamp you are using or there will be a high risk of fires or equipment damage. Only use the Maxibright ballast that comes with this kit for firing up the CDM lamps. Never use a HPS or MH ballast with CDM lamps. Connect the mains plug into an electrical outlet socket and switch on. The Maxibright CDM ballast will start-up and light the lamp.

PLEASE NOTE: The 315w CDM lamps need to be bedded in as follows: on first illumination the lamp needs to be run continuously for a minimum of 15 minutes. This will allow the metals within the lamp to fuse correctly.

If the above is not adhered to, lamp warranty claims will be void.

Please note: With CDM lamps until they have achieved at least 10 hours of use (from new) that they should not be switched off for at least 2 minutes after switch-on. This includes testing during the initial installation. If it happens then the light needs to be left off for at least 1 hour before switching back on again. Failure to do this will damage the lamp and will lead to ignition problems.

Warning: When CDM HID (High Intensity Discharge) lamps are switched on they run extremely hot. As with all HID lamps it is necessary to avoid touching the lamp with anything such as fingers or plants as this may cause severe burns or fires. In particular, avoid sprays or liquids coming into contact with the lamp as this may cause premature failure or even an explosion.

Also available is the Daylight Horizon Connect, which features the same technology but comes with the parts required to mount the ballast to the reflector to form a complete all-in-one fixture.
