Can the EU Affect How You Buy Your Tomato Puree?

The short answer is yes.

The European Union is something that divides the people in this country and will continue to do so long into the future.

It’s common knowledge amongst all of us that tomato puree is sold in fractions of a ounce and it’s not uncommon for people to buy their tomato puree 1/8th or a 1/4 at a time, which is often suitable for ones own consumption.

But according to the EU and its Units of Measurements directives you may soon have buy your tomato puree in grams.

So here at One Stop Grow Shop, we’ve created a short tutorial in converting measurements to ensure you stay legal when buying.

  1. We need to convert the fraction into a decimal which you do as follows:

Take the top number and divide it by the bottom number:

So 1/8 would be 1 divided by 8 = 0.125

This gives you the amount in ounces. An 1/8th would be 0.125 ounces.

2. We can now convert this into grams and that’s job done:

To convert, simply divide your decimal by 0.035274. Easy!

That would mean your 1/8th of tomato puree is in fact:

0.125/0.035274 = 3.544 grams

We know what you’re thinking. This makes everything so much simpler and we thank the EU for its legally binding “midas touch” directives.

Just imagine the scenario, you’re buying your tomato puree and instead of asking for “an eighth of tomato puree”, now you’re going to be asking for “3.544 grams of tomato puree”.

We know how much you agree with us so share our calculator with people you know so they can make their life simpler too.
