The IWS Flood & Drain system is a vast improvement on a classic design. The IWS designers have built this Flood & Drain system with the grower in mind, making it simple to operate & virtually maintenance free.
The system is fully modular allowing the grower to add or remove pots, increasing or decreasing the size of the system.
The system is made up of either 6, 12, 24, 36 or 48 pots which are all linked to the brain pot, which is then linked to the large header tank.
Each individual pot is actually made up of 3 components, the base stand, an outer pot which houses a watertight gland, and an inner pot which has a series of hole punched into the base.
Each system comes with a roll of black flexi pipe. When you have laid out the pots in the desired formation with as much or as little space between each pot as you require, you can then cut the pipe to the correct lengths, attach the fittings and link the pots to the brain. This allows you to choose the space between each pot.
The pot stand has been moulded with a 5-degree slope, this means that the pot will virtually drain of all water preventing the plants roots from sitting in still water for prolonged periods (this may lead to root rot).
The Brain Pot is where the magic happens, it houses the flood pump and float switches which are set at the correct height to ensure adequate flooding of the individual pots. The control box and timer are attached to the Brain Pot by a long lead, this means that you can remote the Control Box away from the system placing it near to the door or even in another room.
The Control Box allows you to set how many times per day the system floods, and the interval of each flood in either seconds or minutes. Once each flood has ended, the drain pump located in the header tank sucks all the remaining water back to itself.
With young plants you may decide to flood 3 times per day during the lights on cycle, for periods of 5 minutes. You can then increase the amount of floods per day as the weeks pass, and increase the flood durations as the plant develops more roots and requires more water.
The novel thing about this system is that all of the nutrient solution is located at the header tank (except during the flood cycles). This allows you to carry out all top-ups, nutrient & PH management in one place. When it comes time to carry out a complete tank change, attach hosepipe to the tap located at the bottom of the header tank & run this hose to a drain. Once the tank is empty, refill with fresh solution applying the correct amount of nutrients for that particular week, reset the timer and leave it to work it’s magic.
Customer feedback: This is by far the easiest system to use, you could go on holiday.
